In Florida, it is not a requirement to have liability coverage.
That means it is very possible that someone who hits you in an automobile accident may not have liability insurance to cover your injuries if they were at fault for an accident.
If you have uninsured motorist coverage you can go after your own policy for the damages that you would have gotten from the at-fault party if they would have had liability coverage.
It seems like more often these days that people are not getting liability coverage or have very low limits of liability coverage. This makes uninsured motorist coverage very important to have.
Make sure to check your policy to verify that you have uninsured motorist coverage, also called “UM.”
