If your dog injures someone, will homeowners insurance cover it?

Today, I want to talk to you about dog bites. When I say dog bites I’m going to talk to you not only about dog bites, but if your dog injures anybody in any way. Meaning that they could get excited and jump on somebody knocking them over, they could be playing with them and bite their hand by accident when they’re trying to get to a toy. So in Florida, it’s strict liability. If you own a dog and your dog injures somebody else you’re responsible. That’s why it’s so important that you check your insurance policy if you’re homeowners and make sure that you’re covered for dogs. A lot of policies exclude dogs altogether, some policies exclude certain types of dogs, some policies have a sub-limit, a lower limit of liability for dogs. So you want to check your policy and see what you have and make sure you’re covered If you own any type of dog. A lot of people say my dog is never going to bite somebody, they’re a small dog, it’s a friendly dog, but you never know what a dog is gonna do, especially if they’re playful. They can hurt somebody in another way rather than biting them. So check your policy. If you have any further questions, please feel free to give us a call.
