Signing Releases From Insurance Companies After a Car Accident

There is a circumstance that often happens in our office concerning insurance companies. The story goes like this: someone was in an auto accident that was not their fault, they will come to us to represent, we call the insurance company to see how we can go about getting them fair compensation for their injuries.

Sometimes when we make that call, we discover that the client has already signed a release form with the insurance company that extinguishes all of their rights against the at-fault party. Do not sign anything if you sustained an injury in a car accident without having an attorney review the document. Often, these documents extinguish your rights for a small amount of money and prevent you from pursuing any more money from the at-fault money.

Typically, insurance companies will try to make you sign these documents quickly before you have time to process what has happened or contact an attorney. It is not in your best interest to do this as it helps the insurance company pay you less money than you may deserve. Be very careful of what you are signing with insurance companies.
